Scary Thursday
At the end of the work day today, we had an all-staff meeting where it was announced that due to recent sharply-reduced revenue, three people were let go today. All of the people who were canned had been at the company just a few months; in contrast, I have been there one month as of yesterday.

When the CEO was asked when another round of layoffs might occur, he shrugged and said he had no way of telling. It is hoped, he said, that revenue will pick up and such actions won't be necessary--but ultimately, he had no way of knowing.

Needless to say, the majority of the people in the room looked like they were scared shitless--myself included. As people left to go home, the place was like a morgue.

Right now, I am counting my blessings that I am still employed, but am also a bit nervous about the axe falling again--on my neck. I realize it could happen next week, next month, or never. On the plus side, I have been told repeatedly that I am doing an excellent job; I honestly have no idea what kind of job the people who got fired were doing.

I am crossing my fingers that I won't have to jump back into another job search so soon.

Well, be ready for it. Resume, etc. It's that sort of economy these days.

I updated my resume the first week I started the new job, actually. I am just crossing my fingers I won't need it for a good long time.

I'll be crossing my paws to for ya. Hope you keep your job and aren't laid off. ^^

I hope so, too--I plan to just keep at it. Thank you for the kind words!

This is the downside of not working somewhere like UT -- not nearly as much security. I'll hope for the best for ya! Keep up the good work -- it's all you can do.

Thank you for the kind wishes! *hug* I am being told regularly that I do an excellent job, so hopefully that will keep the axe away from me until things turn around.

*hugs* Best of luck, wolfy

*hug!* Thank you, foxy! It may wind up being nothing; I sure hope so.

oooh.... well you made the first cut... I wish ya the best! *hopes and looks worried*

Well, we have been told it is the "earnest hope" of the company not to lay off anyone else anytime soon; let's hope they stick to that.

Personally, I am going to do my level best not to worry; I do enough of that as it is. I will take things as they come and hope for the best.

You could always come over to Apple. :D Call Volt Tech Services, and get your butt over here to the land of milk and honey!

And in the meantime, the fact that he hopes revenue will pick up does not bode well, sad to say. I got my fingers crossed for you.

I don't think my prospects at Apple would be that hot. I am not a programmer or anything; in fact, this is my very first job in the tech sector, so I have exactly one month of experience in this field. The majority of my professional experience is administrative and data entry, that sort of thing.

My supervisor told me Friday he would do everything he could to keep me there, telling me he was very impressed with my learning curve and productivity...and he has been there since the company's creation, and is the right-hand man to the CEO. So, with fingers crossed, I hope I can stay where I am for a while.
