Iowa did what?!

There are times when I am much more proud of being a native Iowan than others.

This is one of those times, and this essay sums it up better than anything:

o(:o)

EDIT: palabrajot just pointed out an important point on his LJ; it's Iowa's state motto:

Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain.

Despite producing vomit-inducing right-wing pieces of shit like "Representative" Steve King, I am proud to see my home state getting something right that is so important and socially relevant...not to mention necessary.

I can hear the heads of rightards exploding from here. Gay marriage is no longer an evil east coast liberal conspiracy!

You're from Iowa? :-o

I'll try and read that article when I get home. :)

Yup, born and raised. Spent the first 35 years of my life there.

And this latest development is something I never thought I would see happen in Iowa in my lifetime, that's for sure.

Well, fuck California, I'm taking my boyfriend and moving to Iowa!

And on the List of Things I Never Thought I Would Say, that was #3.

Heh. I haven't been in Iowa since 2000--and this would almost be reason to pay another visit there.

Now if only I had a special someone to make it worth my while. o(:oP

Let's hope it lasts. The same thing happened here in California: the gay marriage ban was ruled unconstitutional, and the only way to make gay marriage illegal again was to amend the constitution, which was thought to be a long shot.

Proposition 8 wasn't such a long shot, it turns out. :/
