Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day here in the United States, and I thought I would put together the things I am thankful for. It's kinda long, so I have put it under an LJ cut--but you know you wanna look!

Friends. This list is in no particular order, but even if it was, this would still be number one. Without the support and advice of my friends--especially this year--I think I would have gone screaming into the void a long time ago. You folks are the glue that helps hold me together, and that isn't something I could repay if I lived to be two hundred years old.

The Furry Fandom. Yeah, I know, it has inherent issues and drama associated with it that drives all of us crazy sometimes...but I wouldn't still be part of it after twelve years if it wasn't important to me. Even with all its faults, the fandom has helped me connect with some of the best friends I have ever had in my life. It has also allowed me to meet and befriend some of the most wildly creative and decent people I would never have met otherwise.

Family. I come from a big family, and yes, some members of it drive me off the deep end once in a while. But much like the furry fandom, if you remove and/or ignore the drama, what is left is gold. Over this past year, I lost a member of my family, my eldest sister, but out of that I was able to reconnect with my nephew. He and I were absolutely inseparable growing up, and even after having not communicated for several years, we were both delighted to discover we are still best friends.

Health. Yeah, sometimes I indulge in unhealthy habits, heaven knows--but I do my best to keep in decent health. So far, so good.

Politics. This may sound strange, but becoming more politically aware--even though it sometimes makes my head nearly explode--has helped to keep me not only well-educated on the world around me, but has kept me mentally sharp. If I ever lost my mental acuity, I don't know what I would do.

Coins. This is probably going to sound really weird to folks out there. My coin collection relaxes me; I can sit and study coins for hours at a time. I don't look at it as an investment or a chunk of my retirement fund; I am into coins for their history and design, and am endlessly fascinated by them. I can lose myself in my collection, and it is very relaxing and therapeutic for me.

Scorsese. I have had a lot of spare time on my hands over the last few months, and have been able to study a lot of films. This guy is the gold standard, as far as I am concerned; nobody does it better.

That's the short list; I am sure there is a lot more. It never hurts to count your blessings once in a while--even more so when things aren't going perfectly. To all my friends in the States, Happy Thanksgiving!

Thank you muchly! *hugs*

We need to watch 'Xanada' one of these days. I have the new version of it! ...which is probably the same as the old version! But that's okay either way! :)

That would be awesome!

It also reminds me of another thing I am thankful for: ELO and the incomparable Jeff Lynne. o(:o)
