Looks like it happened...I got a job
I just got back from a job offer interview, and have been offered an Office Manager position here in north Austin.

The pay is less than the last job I had, by twenty percent, but it is a salary upon which I can squeak by if I budget myself very carefully. On the bright side, I look at it this way: I will be making over $10K a year more than I was on my unemployment stipend.

The owner of the business told me that he knew he was getting a bargain, and that he has every intention of raising my salary as soon as business picks up, which he foresees being in the next six months--so hopefully being financially tight won't be a permanent condition. All in all, I really can't complain; you have no idea how many experienced administrative support positions I saw posted during my job search which offered the obscenely low burger-flipping wage of $9.00 an hour. In this job climate, I can't look a gift horse in the mouth. I am grateful that I found something.

My first day of work will be Monday, December 14. The business is a startup, and literally won't be opening its doors for business until January, but they need someone to help set up and organize the office and have it running smoothly once business does start to roll in. After that, the sky's the limit, hopefully.

This four-month-long job search has been an utter bitch, and my heart goes out to anyone who is currently seeking work--and it is my fervent hope that they find something soon, too. I wouldn't wish being unemployed in this recession upon my worst enemy.

See! I knew if you kept looking you'd fine one! Congrats! -hugs tightly- ^^

*hug* Thanks! I am just glad it was only a matter of months, rather than years.

Congrats Lou, so happy to hear that :)

Thanks--I am, too. o(:o)

Very cool! Startups are great places to begin the networking thang, to :) Congrats, if a moderated congrats :)

Keep an ear out for a spreadsheet-and-logistics monkey, I don't know how long my position will last :)

Heh...right now, it is just me and the owner, until things gear up in January. But I will definitely keep my ears and eyes open!

Great news, wolfy! Man, I'm so glad that this job did come through for you. Congratulations, and all the best! *hugs*

*hug* Thank you, foxy...and thank you for listening to all my whining while I was looking, too!

Yeah, you know how many times I've heard business owners say that and then not do it, sometimes while continuing to blow smoke up your ass? Sorry to poop on your parade but I've seen that same song and dance offered to boomeroo at least twice now.

It's great if it happens but don't count on it.

If it doesn't happen, I move on and find something else. I am happy to be working again.

That's great news! Congrats :)

Thanks! I'm glad the hard part's over. o(:o)

*phew* Congrats, dude. I'm so glad to hear this.

Thanks! It ain't perfect, but all things considered it could be a lot worse.

Yeah, it's a sign of the times when positions that should be making twice that amount are being posted--and successfully filled--at such a tiny amount. I am so lucky I bucked those odds.

Wow, that's good news! Congrats! I hope you'll enjoy your work, and that your boss sticks to his words regarding the salary raise. And even if he doesn't -- A low salary is better than unemployment. And even if you find that you can't cope with that low a salary, it's still a comfortable position for further job hunting.

*hug* Thanks! And you are exactly right; if, a few months down the road, things don't look like they are going to pan out, I can always restart my job search. There's a lot less pressure to conduct a search when one is already employed.

Congrats man, and keep it up!

Thanks! That's the plan. o(:o)

Me, too! As we had discussed before, I was afraid that since almost no one hires during the holiday season, that I wasn't going to even get another interview until after the first of the year.
