RIP Don Knotts
Well, Don Knotts has passed away. It's a little sad that his last role had to be the excremental Chicken Little, but hey--the late, great Phil "Wonga!" Harris' last hurrah was the abysmal Rock-a-Doodle.

Anyway...I was never a huge Andy Griffith Show fan, and I preferred Norman Fell's Mr. Roper to Knotts' Ralph Furley on Three's Company, but I do remember with some fondness those silly little Apple Dumpling Gang movies with Tim Conway. Juvenile? Sure; but I loved them as a kid.

My all-time favorite Don Knotts role? Easy; it was the TV Repairman in Pleasantville. Watching him go all ballistic and actually curse at Tobey Maguire was priceless. o(:o)

EDIT: A little personal anecdote related (in a way) to Don Knotts. One time, a few years ago, in a moment of ego, I entered my character name into a search engine to see what would come up. I was astonished to find many, many references to The Andy Griffith Show. A little research showed me why: Barney Fife's girlfriend on the show, Thelma Lou, used to make Barney's favorite dessert for him--cashew fudge! o.O

It's not just Knotts, sadly. Darrin McGavin (Kolchak: The Night Stalker, A Christmas Story) has also shuffled off this mortal coil. Damn.

Triple ditto on his "Pleasantville" role. I don't think they could have written him into the script in a more benevolent and affectionate way.
